Hedges Station, built in 1849 and recognized as the oldest surviving train depot in Illinois, stands today as a restored landmark of Winfield's early history. Once serving as a train stop, post office, tavern, and even a family home, the depot has been carefully revived through a multi-phase restoration effort. Now operating as a museum, it offers visitors a window into the community's beginnings and the pivotal role transportation played in shaping the area.
